Make some dramatic changes in no time (and for not much money!)
While we love our homes, many of us get a little lax with the TLC they need and deserve. Over time, homes become like that familiar pair of sweatpants; warm and comfortable, sure, but eventually we stop caring so much about their appearance. But this is doing a disservice to your house, its value, and the entire neighborhood. Fortunately, it doesn’t take a lot of time, money, or effort to make some radical changes to your home. We’ve got some great ideas you can tackle in a few hours.
Do something different with your mailbox
Chances are, you’ve been using the same mailbox since the day you moved into your house. Odds are also good that everyone on your street has one that looks pretty similar. Changing up your mailbox can be as simple as painting the post or the box itself, adding some flowers around it, or maybe switching it out for something wacky that reflects your personality. And while you’re at it, why not replace those boring old address numbers on your house?
Add some fresh paint to your door
Again, it’s highly likely your front door looks exactly the same as the first time you saw it. While you may have painted your house, added new siding, or even had a new roof put on, your door remains the same. Even if you think it’s the perfect color, it has almost certainly lost some of its lusters over the years. A fresh coat can do wonders for your home’s appearance, and if you’re concerned about value, think black.
Replace or put up shutters
Shutters may seem old-fashioned or unnecessary – after all, for the most part, they’re purely decorative – but you’d be amazed at the difference they can make. If you have shutters, consider painting them or replacing them with some modern styles. If you don’t have them yet, as long as they accent your windows well, the sky’s the limit in terms of choices.
Do some strategic landscaping
When it comes to mowing, trimming, pruning, and all the rest, we mostly seem to focus on two areas: the front and backyard. But what about the sides? It’s quite possible that you’ve been neglecting your side yards, and it is time to do something about it. If there’s enough sun, consider putting in a small flower garden. Even just a piece of stonework might be enough to make the area look nicer.
Get rid of the junk
Sometimes, subtraction is just as effective (if not more so) than any addition you can make. Unless you’re extremely meticulous about your yard, it probably contains at least a few unused items basically waiting to be thrown away. A good cleanup may take a while, but once all that needless stuff is gone, you’ll be amazed at how much better things look. (Plus, your neighbors will thank you.)
Have a mosquito control system installed
Okay, this one won’t actually enhance how your home and yard look. This is because a good mosquito control system is barely noticeable. At Platinum Mosquito Protection, our system consists of nozzles placed around your yard you probably wouldn’t even unless you knew they were there. And while your aesthetics won’t change, there won’t be any mosquitos to worry about. Interested in learning more? Get in touch for a free onsite consultation.
