Get the whole family outside to see a show unlike any other
If you’re like most people, your home is filled with an assortment of tech items. Surely you have a TV, computer, and various other devices. If you have kids, most likely there’s at least one video game system. An average evening in your house probably consists of folks staring at many different screens.
Want to get everybody unplugged for a little while? You don’t have to go very far to get a little offline entertainment; as long as the sky is clear, your own backyard is an excellent venue. But before you go looking for shooting stars, constellations, (and maybe even UFOs), keep these tips in mind:
Check the weather
The weather in South Florida is good most of the year, but we do get our share of cloudy or hazy days. You’ll want to be sure conditions are optimal for stargazing and comfortable enough for you to stay outside for a while.
Find out what’s happening with the moon
A bright moon may be pretty, but it’s not great when you want to see other stuff in the night sky. If the moon will set early or rise late, you’ll have your best chance at clear views of the stars.
Plan for a nighttime picnic
If you’ll be outside for a while, grab some items that will let you relax and enjoy the experience. This could include lawn chairs, blankets, and cushions.Don’t forget some food and drinks too.
Bring the right equipment
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t necessarily need a telescope to get a great look at the stars. It’s great if you already have one, but a pair of binoculars will do the trick nicely. They’re also easier to use and give you a larger view of the sky. If you want to know what you’re seeing, you may also want to pick up a star chart or map, preferably one that glows in the dark. There are also apps like Google Sky Map that can give you reference points.
Give it a little time
It’s going to take a little while for your eyes to adjust to the darkness, so you should set up your spot and then relax for about five minutes or so. Once you start stargazing, your eyes will grow accustomed to their vantage point and you’ll begin to notice more and more amazing things.
Keep everybody protected
Nothing will ruin a fun night of stargazing faster than mosquitos. This is why before you step outside, you should make sure you’ve got the right protection. Sprays and bug candles may work for a little while, but for a more permanent solution, contact Platinum Mosquito Protection.
We’ll install a misting system that will keep mosquitos and other annoying pests away from your yard so you can enjoy all of your outdoor activities. For a free onsite consultation, fill out our online form to embark on life without mosquitos!
