Work up a sweat and enjoy nature in South Florida now that summer’s nearly here
Now that the warm weather’s here to stay, you’ll want to spend as much time outdoors as possible – and look good for beach season. Here in subtropical South Florida, early mornings and evenings are excellent times of the day to get exercise outdoors while enjoying the blooming buds, the gorgeous sunshine, and the beautiful wildlife.
And with summer right around the corner, it’s a perfect time to focus on getting fit and feeling your best. Don’t get cooped up as you fight for your summer body; get outside and enjoy the fresh air instead! If you’re used to hitting the gym, here are some tips to getting a big sky workout that’s better than ever:
1. Ready to run?
Why spend time on a hamster-wheel-like treadmill when you can experience the fresh, crisp, spring air first thing in the morning? Runners around the world agree that running outdoors is a completely different experience than running inside. And did you know that many runners consider a treadmill cheating? If you want the real deal, you’ve got to get outside on the ground: grass, gravel, pavement, and natural changes in elevation are the best ways to get a good run in each day.
2. Say yes to yoga
Yoga is your chance to connect with your body, soul, and mind. Why not also get in touch with the planet, while you’re at it? Go ahead, set up your yoga mat on a smooth stretch of grass and bring a soothing playlist — or leave the music off so you can enjoy both the sights and the sounds of the beautiful outdoors.
3. Try a trampoline
One exciting way to get fit outside this spring and summer is to invest in a backyard trampoline. USA Today reports that jumping on your kid’s backyard toy can burn up to 1,000 calories in a single hour, beating running and, yes, even yoga, by leaps and bounds.
4. Just jump rope
The ‘90s are back in, aren’t they? And we bet most kids of that era spent their fair share of time jumping rope or double Dutch. Channel your inner child or your high school days by getting outside with a jump rope. And the good news is that it’s easier than you might think. Trust us, you’ll be back at it again in no time.
5. Have a hula hoop?
Then spin even farther back in time by getting out there and enjoying it! Hula hooping is a classic, fun way to enjoy the outdoors while working on your core strength and increasing your cardio tolerance.
No matter how you choose to enjoy the outdoors, make sure you do enjoy it.
Nothing can kill an outdoor moment like a mosquito bite or two (or ten). Here in South Florida, these pests like to make an appearance in most places and times (especially the early morning or early evening hours). So before you get out there and enjoy the outdoors, make sure you protect yourself and your family. Platinum Mosquito Protection can set you up with your own personal mosquito control system for your backyard. Work out in good health and in peace. Contact us today and we’ll get you started!
